Story and Photos: Spencer Fleming
Boston-based rockers Above Snakes rolled through Omaha Saturday night (4/29) in support of Adelitas Way and they gave the Barnato crowd an awesome set!
My PR buddy Tom asked me to come out for some pics and I happily obliged. I had seen Above Snakes open for From Ashes To New a while back and they were a lot of fun. At the FATN show I got to talk with lead singer Johnny Skulls and guitarist Dax Dabs after their set and they were super nice and down to earth. Johnny and I both grew up in the 80s so we connected on a lot of the same sports teams and video games and other bits of pop culture.
This time around I popped in to catch Above Snakes' set exclusively. Since Barnato is right down the road from me it was nice to take a few minutes for the photo session and then slip back into Dad mode for the rest of the weekend.
Above Snakes played about 6 or 7 songs including a brand new one that Johnny asked the crowd to film. He said he'd like to gather the footage from everyone and cut it up for a music video. I hope they follow through with that. Now that everyone has a decent camera in their pocket I think the video could turn out pretty decent with some professional editing.
Above Snakes fit right in with the radio-rock crowd that showed up Saturday. I counted at least 20 Shinedown shirts, several Breaking Benjamin, and a few Avatar (since they had just played the night before at the Admiral). Sparky from 104.1 The Blaze was hanging off to the side and Johnny gave the station a shout out before playing their single "81 Thallium". With the sing along chorus and upbeat rhythms it was a crowd pleaser for sure. Above Snakes finished the set with one of their more well know songs "The Broken Ones" and had several folks towards the front bopping along to every word.
I'm excited to see where Above Snakes goes in the future. Hopefully they can come back through with a headline set soon! Check out the pics below and give Above Snakes a follow to keep up with all their tour dates and new music releases!
