Alternative rock staple Chevelle brought their Bright As Blasphemy tour to the Steelhouse in Omaha on Tuesday (8.12.25) and it was a riot! Rounding out the bill were the UK rockers Asking Alexandria and newcomers Dead Poet Society. Let's get into it!

The night started with an announcement from Steelhouse's security team leader Tasha. "There's a few rules here. Number one, have fun! If I look out and see you not having fun I will come over and embarrass you! Rule number two, be nice! Get to know the people around you, don't fight over "spots". When people go to the bathroom or get a drink let them get back to their friends. Tasha made the crowd loudly call out rule number one before the show could begin, it was awesome, go Tasha!

The night started with a set from Dead Poet Society. I had done some research before the show and checked out their new album Fission. They sounded like early Muse, when they had those prolific releases like Absolution, Black Holes, and The Resistance. Dead Poet Society had the crowd moving with heavy riffs, trembling bass, and silky falsetto vocals. The band played about five songs before pulling out their two bangers "Running In Circles" and the super catchy "Hurt".

I noticed some of the band members at the merch booth later in the show. That's how you do it boys, meet fans, sign records, get huge.

Next was the UK band Asking Alexandria. I've seen AA a couple times now and they always bring it live. The crowd was going nuts for the groovy riffs and heavy screams. I looked back from the photo pit and there was a wave of people bouncing from front to back. Danny Worsnop and crew know how to throw down! Throughout the night I saw a lot of AA shirts walking around. It's been a couple years since AA's last album Where Do We Go From Here? so there may be some new music brewing. For now the band is on tour with Chevelle through early October. There's plenty of dates left so a 2025 road trip could still be in the cards.

Last act of the night was the mighty Chevelle! After all these years I still hadn't seen Chevelle live. After Tuesday night's show I have to kick myself for waiting so long. With only three members they brought a wall of sound like a rock and roll army. Brothers Pete and Sam and bass player Kemble tore the roof off the Steelhouse! The crowd had really packed it in by now. There had to be close to 1,000 people swarming the floor and foaming at the mouth. The band kicked off the set with "Family System" from their major label smash album Wonder What's Next. With a super heavy building riff and hard hitting drums the crowd was going nuts from the energy Chevelle was bringing. From front to back bodies thrashed along to the crunchy guitars and screaming vocals.

Something that's really interesting about Chevelle is their song structures don't follow the typical verse, chorus, verse style. It never really hit me until I heard lead singer Pete talk about it on the Jamey Jasta show podcast, but the band doesn't rhyme. I would've never given it a second thought but after hearing Pete say that it's all I can think about when I hear Chevelle now. Sorry if this is blowing anyone's mind. They're still really good songs but yea, no rhymes! This isn't really that ground breaking. There's a lot of bands that have songs with no rhyming like Tool, the Mars Volta, La Dispute, I could think of some others. The only difference here is I think those bands just mentioned have some songs with rhymes. I have yet to hear a rhyming Chevelle song. There may be some lyrics that come close, but overall the band does their own thing and that's pretty cool.

Chevelle treated the Steelhouse crowd to 18 songs before calling it a night. Pete seemed super impressed with the Omaha crowd saying "You guys are making Tuesday feel like a Friday out here!". I think it's safe to say Omaha has earned a spot on the next tour. With how great the band sounded I don't think they have plans to quit any time soon. If you get the chance check out Chevelle's new album Bright As Blasphemy which dropped today (8.15.25)!

Thanks for reading and we'll see you at the next one!

A big thanks to Steelhouse and Chevelle management for photo access.
