Coheed & Cambria Make History In Omaha!

Prog-rock legends Coheed & Cambria rocked Omaha Sunday (9.27.26) playing an incredible history making set. Bringing along pop-rockers The Home Team, the Admiral received a heaping dose of high energy tunes that won't soon be forgotten. Being a long-time Coheed fan I can say this was up there as one of their best shows they've ever played. Let's get into it!

The night started off with The Home Team from Seattle, WA. I had heard good things from several people in the music scene, but I had never heard The Home Team's music before Sunday. I was going in fresh! These guys absolutely killed their set. They had so much energy from start to finish. This wasn't just an opener, The Home Team was, in my opinon, a co-headliner. With bouncing rhythms and non-stop spin kicks the band kept the crowd's attention with ease. Their sound reminded me a little bit of Sleep Theory, who've become popular for mixing up pop and R&B with metal riffs. For over 40 minutes the band had the crowd bouncing from front to back. The Home Team is now on my radar. I'll be doing a deep dive on their discography and if they come back through on a headlining date make sure you get there, you won't be disappointed.

As I waited in the photo pit I could feel the excitement of the crowd behind me. With over 1,000 fans in attendance the air was electric. Nearly everywhere you looked there was a Coheed & Cambria shirt, hoodie, or hat in the crowd. This one was for the die-hards.

Claudio and his giant hair pranced on stage ripping into "A Favor House Atlantic" from Coheed's breakthrough second album In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3. As I glanced behind me everyone on the rail was rocking along singing every word.

Travis and Zach shared glances across the stage while drummer Josh was already breaking into a sweat. The band was firing on all cylinders. Staying with the In Keeping Secrets theme, Claudio strummed the famous opening riff of "Blood Red Summer" and kept the good vibes rolling. Coheed played "Devil In Jersey City" before heading into the Afterman album.

As the headline suggests this was a history making show for Coheed. On Tuesday 9.29 Coheed is heading to Red Rocks to play their epic double album The Afterman: Part 1 - Ascension and Part 2 - Descension live in full. To prepare for the show Coheed played Afterman: Ascension in Des Moines on Saturday and Afterman: Descension in Omaha on Sunday. Claudio mentioned to the crowd that it was the first time the band had played Descension in full. So cool that we got to witness a part of the band's history!

Claudio poked some fun at themselves saying "Thank you for being part of this experiement. I know some of you are thinking "What the heck are they playing? When do they play "Welcome Home"?, but also some of you are are super stoked right now". You can put me in the latter camp. I was a bit split on The Afterman album. I thought Ascension was pretty good, but I realllly liked Descension. I was so excited we got to see the whole album in full. "Number City" into "Gravity's Union" was absoultely amazing.

After playing through Descension Coheed served up a heaping plate of hits starting with the masterpiece that is In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3. During the breakdown the band took their time and really jammed out. They laid the crowd to waste with the face melting shredding and rousing whoa-oh-ohs! If you can stand through that song and not raise your fist in unison as Claudio screams "Man Your Own Jackhammer!" are you really a Coheed fan???

Coheed continued the hit train with some cuts from the Vaxis albums. Shout out to this young lady. She wins most excited Child of the Fence for going absolutley ham during "Liars Club".

After 90 minutes of pummeling the crowd Coheed gave eveyone a proper send off with the ultimate closer in "Welcome Home". Claudio cemented his place among the guitar gods with his double neck shredding. From front to back the crowd was on their feet throwing up the horns in guitar worship.

This show was one for the books, literally! Anytime Coheed's album Afterman: Descension is menitoned there will be a foonote noting that they played it for the first time in full in Omaha, Nebraska. That's pretty great if you ask me. I'm so thankful I could capture this epic show!
