Story and Photos: Audrey Wright
Sierra Ferrell and her band rolled through town Friday evening (3/10) with special guest Jaime Wyatt, to give Omaha a little taste of bluegrass and a whole lot of fun. Believe it or not, this was my first ever time covering a bluegrass show and I was thrilled. I have always listened to country and bluegrass because it’s really great feel good music. It makes you go back to a simpler time. That’s exactly what I did too. Everyone forgot about their worries that evening and just had a good time listening to two phenomenal singers and their talented bands.
Jaime Wyatt and her band were the first to tantalize our eardrums. Reigning from Nashville, TN, Wyatt released her first album Felony Blues in 2017. This album covers her time suffering from addiction, going to prison, and ultimately coming out on top. She came out on stage wearing the most colorful suit and bright red lipstick. When Jaime started singing my jaw dropped. All I could think was, what a time to be alive, standing in this room, listening to such a talented woman and her band play. Wyatt told the crowd about her prison days and also that she recently came out. You go girl! I enjoyed every minute of her set. Jaime released a record in 2020 called Neon Cross. Give this album a listen. You won’t regret it.
Sierra Ferrell graced the stage wearing flowers in her hair and the most amazing boots I have ever seen. They were so sparkly. I just had to capture them. The whole room lit up when she came out on stage. She played a Willie Nelson cover with her band called "Seven Spanish Angels" and some new music too. She of course played her most famous song In Dreams at the very end. My favorite song that she played was The Sea. Going into this show I was a huge fan and being able to hear the songs live was wonderful. This country gal is from West Virginia. Ferrell released her debut album Long Time Coming with Rounder Records in 2021. If you haven’t seen her perform, I suggest you do, although most of this tour is sold out already which is incredible!
Both of these women are so talented and it’s great to see them leading the music industry. We need more of that. I will be seeing Sierra Ferrell again in April when I travel to Denver, CO. I am thrilled. Thank you to Sierra Ferrell and her team for having me out. Thank you to Jaime Wyatt for gracing us with your beautiful voice and presence. Until next time, friends.
