It's winter time in Omaha. The leaves are changing, college football is winding down and everyone is getting ready for the holidays. Around here that usually means concerts are slowing down a bit, but Saturday's (11.25.25) show was one of our most anticipated of the year!
Over the last few years I've become a massive SPIRITBOX fan. After many close chances to see them that fell through I finally got to catch them open for Korn last fall and I became even more hooked! I caught the first leg of the Tsunami Sea tour in Des Moines back in late April and it was absolutely incredible. When the band announced they were coming to Omaha on a second leg I snapped up a ticket immediately.
Like the first leg, the band did not grant media access. Never fear! My good friend Joe DeSanti (The Review Junkie) let me borrow his nice point and shoot and I walked away with some pretty decent shots.
SPIRITBOX packed the Steelhouse on a crispy Saturday night and they absolutely killed their set. Courtney LaPlante and her beau Mike Stringer are one of the coolest power couples in the metal scene today. Their on stage chemistry just oozes swagger and the crowd ate it up. The band's stage production was top notch, with atmospheric videos featuring lots of thunder, lightning, and forestry imagery, which is part of the theme of their latest album Tsunami Sea.
If the production wasn't enough, Courtney wowed in her goth queen outfit. She started the show in an all black cloak and peeled back to a leather-clad dress and boots. She had the crowd moving from start to finish with her terrorizing growls and soaring melodic vocals.
For the third year in a row SPIRITBOX has been nominated for a grammy and their current tour is packing bigger theaters all across the U.S. and Canada. If you didn't catch them on Saturday, I'm sorry to say that was your last chance at seeing them in a small venue. The next time they do a headline tour they will be at arena levels. Whether the band wins a Grammy or not, they are poised to take over the heavy metal world! Give their new album Tsunami Sea a spin today!
