Now back to the story.....

Palaye Royale brought their Fever Dream Tour and fashion glam rock to Omaha Friday night (10/7). When I arrived at the venue, I felt like I was walking into my past with just a little twist. Goth and emo teens were standing before me dressed in their best attire. I thought emo was dead, I guessed wrong. The scene is coming back and I am here for it. While I wasn’t the oldest person at this show, I did feel pretty old walking into this venue. I used to shoot shows at The Admiral when I was a teen. I always feel some sort of nostalgia walking through those doors.

Starbenders opened the night with some crazy outfits and harmonious guitar riffs. This alternative rock band reigns from Atlanta, Georgia. They really got the crowd going. A fellow concert goer and music enthusiast I had talked to outside just before the show told me that lead singer Kimi Shelter, could be Paul Stanley’s daughter. He was right. She has some killer vocals too. I was very impressed with this group.

Next up was Mod Sun. Now I could sit here all day and write about this wonderful human who I have known for well over a decade. I met him at this same venue, but downstairs in the old Sokol Underground. He played to maybe thirty people and it was the best time of my life. Fast forward ten plus years and here we are. They finally let him upstairs! Mod Sun can make any crowd happy to be in the moment. The energy he brings to the stage is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Since day one, he has always poured his heart and soul into performing and it really shows. Mod played songs from his new album Internet Killed The Rockstar that was released in 2021 and a new song that he wrote a few years ago called Battle Scars. It was an absolute privilege to be able to document this night. If you would’ve told me ten years ago that I would be doing this, I probably would’ve said you're crazy! We have both seen each other go through some tough stuff in life and come out on top. I have seen Mod Sun perform all over the United States over the years and to various crowd sizes. This show was the most special out of any others. It is not my story to tell, but I just want to say that I am so proud of him for getting sober and doing what he loves, making and performing music for everyone to enjoy.

Palaye Royale was the final band to hit the stage. I had no idea what to expect, but I knew I was going to enjoy it. I had thought about listening to their music before going to this show, but I felt that would have ruined the experience of discovery. Glamorous outfits, wild hair, and eccentric personalities. This band is the definition of glam rock. Every single member moved around the stage and played a part in making the night one to remember. I paid special attention to guitarist Andrew Berkely Martin. He was a wild one, and made my absolute night. This dude brought so much energy to every single song and his guitar riffs were phenomenal. Palaye Royale gave Omaha a rather royal treatment. Lead singer, Remington Leith, scaled the balcony and sang to everyone upstairs, as well as jumped into the crowd and sang. If you haven’t seen this band live, what are you doing?

I would like to thank The Admiral as alway for the hospitality and having me out. Thank you to Palaye Royale and their team for an incredible performance that I will never forget. Lastly, thank you to my dear friend and brother, Mod Sun. You are the definition of everything good in this world and I will always be there to watch you perform. You are THE BEST!
