Benson was bopping Friday night with two killer shows at the Waiting Room and Reverb Lounge. First, over at Reverb the psychedelic electro-rock group InDreama was throwing down some crazy fuzzed out guitars and pulsing dance beats in anticipation of their new album coming later this year. The band played some fantastic new tracks including the super catchy “Poison House” which is available now on SoundCloud. While some of InDreama’s material can be really wild and sprawling,

Cursive Rocks the Winchester
Playing to a packed house Wednesday night (1/15) local Emo pioneers Cursive kicked off their new tour in front of an enthusiastic hometown crowd. Joining the tour were pop punk thrashers Cloud Nothings and fellow Omaha natives Criteria. Typically, a frigid night in Omaha means low show attendance, but when I pulled up to the Winchester Bar and Grill the parking lot was completely packed. After finding a parking spot down the road I braved the cold and made my way to the venue

Sleeping With Sirens Kick Off the Medicine Tour in Lincoln
Sleeping With Sirens hit the Bourbon Theater in Lincoln Wednesday night (1/8) to kick off their 21 date Medicine tour. SWS brought along three additional bands including Set it Off, Belmont, and Point North. All four bands showed up ready to rock and they did not disappoint. It was a great show to start the year. The night jumped off with the L.A. band Point North. They dished out some tasty pop rock jams and got the crowd going. The best part of the set was when they played

Static-X Celebrates 20 Years of Wisconsin Death Trip
The Bourbon Theatre was beaming with positive vibes Saturday night (10/7) as a sold out crowd came together to celebrate the life of Wayne Static, founding member of industrial metal band Static-X. Wayne’s tragic death in 2004 left a void in the metal community that many thought could never be filled. Luckily, the remaining members of Static-X were able to forge ahead with a new mystery singer Xer0. So far, the band has played several successful shows with Xer0 and the review

Dirty Honey Gives Rock and Roll New Life
L.A. band Dirty Honey made a stop in Lincoln at the Bourbon Theatre Tuesday night (12/3) and proved that good old fashioned rock and roll is here to stay! Taking a cue from classic acts like Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, Dirty Honey puts a new spin on the retro sound that so many of us have grown to love. It’s such a breathe of fresh air to see a young rock band making their way to the top of the charts. I was so disheartened to see Drake topped Spotify’s list as the mo

Third Eye Blind on the Screamer Tour
Third Eye Blind is on tour in support of their new album Screamer and they made a stop in Omaha at the Orpheum Theatre Tuesday night (11/26). Playing to a packed house, Third Eye Blind brought ripping guitars, funky bass, and well, screaming vocals to keep the crowd on their feet. Third Eye Blind released their debut self-titled album in the spring of 1997 and quickly established themselves as one of the most popular rock bands of the late 90s. Back when MTV actually cared ab

Tribute Night at the Waiting Room
The Waiting Room was packed Saturday night (11/23) for a four band bill of alternative rock acts including RGF, Defnotes (Deftones tribute), Badmotorfinger (Sound Garden tribute), and Alice Unchained (Alice in Chains tribute). If you’ve been following Stories from the Crowd for a while you know that Deftones is my favorite band of all time. So, when Defnotes announced they were coming back to the Waiting Room I was super psyched. They did an awesome set over the summer and Sa

Yelawolf Pops His Trunk at Sokol
Southern hip hop artist Yelawolf made a stop in Omaha Wednesday (11/20) and things got crazy! I’ve been familiar with Yelawolf’s music for a long time, but this was my first time seeing him live. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in, but I can tell you after seeing this show I’ll never miss another one when he comes through the Midwest. Yelawolf is on tour in support of his brand new album Ghetto Cowboy, which, as the title suggests, is a unique mix of dirty south hip

Slayer: The Final Campaign
Slayer, the final campaign. These are the voyages of one of the world’s biggest metal bands. After 38 years as one of “the big four” Slayer is retiring from touring. As part of Slayer’s final trek, Omaha was lucky enough to get a stop Monday night (11/18) at CHI Health Center. Joining Slayer for their final leg were Primus, Ministry, and Phil Anselmo and the Illegals. Even with such an awesome package of metal legends the CHI Health Center was only about half full. However, g

3rd Annual Movember Showcase
Just a few minutes from the University of Nebraska Lincoln sits The Bay, a multi-purpose youth center with absolutely stunning amenities. Not only is The Bay a large indoor skatepark, it has a coffee shop and all-ages music venue! This was the place to be Saturday night (11/16) as The Bay hosted the 3rd Annual Movember showcase, a punk rock party focused on changing the conversation surrounding mental health. All proceeds from the event went to The Well-being Initiative. Befo

New Found Glory on the Screen to Your Stereo to Your Town Tour
Lights, Camera, Action! Wednesday night (11/6) New Found Glory hit the Slowdown on the From the Screen to Your Stereo to Your Town tour and it was absolutely terrific! Along for the ride were Emo pioneers Hawthorne Heights with opening support from Free Throw and Ohio natives Jetty Bones. Before I get too far, I have to give a gigantic shout out to New Found Glory drummer Cyrus Bolooki for getting me a last minute photo pass. Being that the show was completely sold out I was

Jimmy Eat World Shines at the Bourbon
In 2002, you couldn’t turn on a radio without hearing “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World. By far the band’s biggest hit, “The Middle” helped take Jimmy from a relatively unknown emo act to pop rock mega-stars in the span of just a few months. Though the band hasn’t had a red hot single the likes of “The Middle” since, they’ve built a loyal following through consistent touring and steady album releases. On the heels of their latest release Surviving, Jimmy Eat World made a stop i

STARSET Rocks the Bourbon Theatre
STARSET brought their Divisions tour to the Bourbon Theatre Friday night (10/18) along with a great package of bands all with different styles. In addition to great bands, I don’t think you could’ve asked for better fall weather. With temps in the 60s and the house being packed with over 600 crazy fans, it was nice to be able to step outside between sets and grab some air. When I arrived at the Bourbon I saw a group of young girls hanging around by the band buses. I asked if

Delta Rae and Frances Cone on the Take Me There Tour
The family harmonies of Delta Rae It’s always nice to be in the company of friends and family, and Tuesday night’s show at the Waiting Room felt just like that. An intimate crowd gathered to see Delta Rae and Frances Cone, two folk pop bands with family connections. Delta Rae from Durham, North Carolina features three siblings Ian Hölljes (vocals and guitar), Eric Hölljes (vocals, guitar, keys) and Brittany Hölljes (vocals). AJR Burns the House Down at Stir Cove
Wow, what a difference a year makes! In June of last year, AJR played to a half full Stir Cove as the opener for Foster the People. Friday night (9/20), AJR brought their Neotheater world tour to Stir Cove and it was completely sold out! I think it’s safe to say, AJR is having the best year of their career so far. Their new album Neotheater, debuted at number one on the Billboard Alternative and Top Rock charts, and number eight on the Billboard Top 200 chart, respectively, a

Social Distortion Celebrates 40 Years of Punk Rock
Well it was quite the hootenanny Wednesday night (9/11) at Stir Cove. With a mixture of Spanish synth-rock, rockabilly, and punk rock there was a little something for everyone. On the bill was Le Butcherettes, The Devil Makes Three, Social Distortion, and Flogging Molly. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I wasn’t able to catch Flogging Molly, but up until that point it was a pretty awesome show. I arrived just as Le Butcherettes we’re taking the stage and I coul

Collective Soul and Gin Blossoms Shine at Stir Cove
Wow, what a night! Two powerhouse bands Collective Soul and Gin Blossoms, hit the Stir Cove Friday (8/30) for one of the best shows of the season. Both bands are working their way across the country on the Now’s the Time tour. With only 3 more shows left on the tour, you would think these bands with many members in their 50s, might have shown some signs of road fatigue, but no, they had the place shaking! Playing to a near sold out crowd, both Collective Soul and Gin Blossoms

Slipknot is riding high in 2019! The band’s new album We Are Not Your Kind just hit number one on the billboard 200 chart, and their Knotfest Road Show tour has been selling out arenas across the country. We were able to catch up with the tour in Bonner Springs, Kansas Saturday (8/17) along with nearly 18,000 other fans! From front to back the house was packed as the boys from Iowa tore the house down. With four bands on the bill the show had an early 5:30 start time and let
